I have a great resource for inspiring young artists’ animal paintings! I’m so happy I splurged on this beautiful book! For Creature, photographer Andrew Zuckerman invited a nice big sample of the animal kingdom into his studio to photograph them against a white background. The effect of a photograph without the context of environment is an intense focus on the animal itself- their textures, their postures, their facial expressions. And they are so up close and personal. It’s a great resource for investigating animals that kids love.
This week I used Creature, along with my Schleich animal figurines to start a couple of painting lessons where we examined shape and texture. Below are the results of some longer animal painting workshops (about 4 sessions) where we focused on shape, texture, AND expression.
